Choosing the right accommodations for your business trip can be stressful when there are so many options. Knowing the difference between different lodging options, and their pros and cons, can help you decide which one is best for you.

Here are some travel accommodation options for your next trip, along with their pros and cons:

Hotel

Pros
Hotels are very reliable and offer comfort and convenience for all travelers. Hotels come in a variety of price ranges and grades, from luxury to very basic. Some hotels offer valuable amenities as well, such as complimentary breakfast, TVs, free WiFi, fitness rooms, pools, food service, room service and more. They’re generally exceptionally clean and offer 24-hour guest services.

Cons
Hotels can be more expensive than other lodging options, and they’re often impersonal for those looking to immerse themselves in a cultural experience.

Bed and Breakfast

Pros
Bed and breakfasts provide lodging in typically larger or historic private homes, making for a more intimate and unique experience than a hotel. The owners are usually friendly locals, who are great sources for local information. A delicious homemade breakfast is commonly prepared for you in the morning!

Cons
Bed and breakfasts can be a little further from the city hub, as they are owned by individuals. Generally, they’re also low-tech and may not provide all of the amenities a business traveler needs, such as a TV, WiFi or multiple charging outlets. You will also not be provided 24-hour service and you may have to share a bathroom with other guests.

Resorts

Pros
Resorts are usually self-contained and come with plenty of features for you to enjoy without having to leave the vicinity. Resorts often come with large pools, restaurants, bars, 24-hour reception, gym facilities, leisure activities and more. You can expect a hassle-free stay with high-end service, rooms and food.

Cons
Resorts come with a costly price tag. You may not be able to take advantage of the many amenities a resort offers while traveling for business. They can also limit your cultural experience in a new area since almost everything is at your disposal at the resort.

Lodges

Pros
Lodges are great for those looking to be situated in a more natural, outdoor or remote setting. They’re perfect for incorporating team building into a business trip, as well as travelers looking to ski or hike rather than head to the fitness center. Lodges offer comfortable accommodations and can sometimes offer luxury amenities. Housekeeping is usually included as well.

Cons
Lodges are generally more expensive than other accommodation options. Lodges vary in size and amenities but are typically smaller than hotels with fewer facilities and features.
