In the spring of 2019, The Travel Team hosted a group in Colombia to celebrate the international success of BPO’s conductor, Maestro JoAnn Falletta, as she conducted the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá. The four-night excursion included art, shopping, history, culture, architecture, and of course, music.
On the first full day in Colombia, guests were treated to a guided tour of the Monserrate Sanctuary that rises over the capital city of Bogotá, Columbia, before touring the historic La Candelaria neighborhood in the heart of Bogotá. The evening concluded with a welcome dinner with special guest, Maestro JoAnn Falletta.
Day three began with tours of some of Bogotá’s main galleries of contemporary art and culminated with an evening concert at the Jorge Eliécer Gaitán Theatre where JoAnn performed with the Orquestra Filarmonica.
The final day included a gastronomic tour featuring many of Colombia’s authentic, traditional dishes. Guests also shopped at a local market to gather ingredients for a cooking class under the direction of a Colombian chef.
Ron Luczak of The Travel Team and tour coordinator for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra said, “Bogota is a cultural and culinary emerging destination. Sophisticated travelers enjoy the vibrancy of the art and music scene. World renowned artist are appearing in concert halls and museums.” He added, “The place is becoming the culinary capital of South America with international chefs opening exciting restaurants throughout the city.”
